👋 I’m Charles - I lead the data science team at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, where we conduct population health research on key topics in ophthalmology and eye care using the Academy’s IRIS® Registry, which is one the largest single-specialty databases in the world, and the United States’ first comprehensive ocular disease and eye care registry. I’m interested in data-driven population health research that examines how healthcare delivery and public health interventions can be optimized, as well as the environmental, socioeconomic, and behavioral determinants of health outcomes in diverse populations.
Previously, I was a research assistant and data manager at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health. There, I had the opportunity to contribute to an international research collaboration on optimizing infectious disease surveillance systems with China’s Centers for Disease Control, where I was also hosted for three summers as a visiting researcher in the city of Chengdu, Sichuan. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in molecular biology and coursework through the data science education program.
